Foundation Honored for Work with Community Shelter Board
Foundation Receives Mel Schottenstein Leadership Award at Community Shelter Board Annual Luncheon
The Columbus Jewish Foundation was one of two community Foundations honored at last week’s Community Shelter Board (CSB) Mel Schottenstein Birthday Celebration. The Community Shelter Board presents the Mel Schottenstein Leadership Award annually to an individual or organization that has made the most significant difference in the lives of homeless individuals and families by creating an “open door” to those in crisis. Additionally, the award recognizes individuals or organizations who have a deep and far-reaching impact; have demonstrated commitment, caring, innovation and leadership in the battle against homelessness; and have demonstrated a vision of a better tomorrow for all people. The Columbus Foundation was the co-recipient of the award.
Mel Schottenstein served as a board member and president of the Columbus Jewish Foundation; and since that time the Columbus Jewish Foundation has been a consistent supporter of CSB and CSB partner agencies through a variety of philanthropic funds. In 2005, the Columbus Jewish Foundation worked with CSB to provide significant support from the Bonner Family Fund to the Homeless Families Foundation to expand its program when another family shelter closed. Many donor funds have also provided gifts to other CSB partners.
